I am Jacob Betts — creative director, songwriter, and frontman of The American Hotel System. For independent artists and creatives, I do the work a label and a creative agency would normally split between ten people: the direction, the video, the merch, and the plan to release it.
From the stage to the studio.
I started as a kid who wrote songs and somehow ended up fronting a touring rock band. Along the way I had to learn everything nobody hands an independent artist — how to shoot a video, how to make merch people actually want, and how to release something so it does not vanish in a week.
Variare Productions is where all of that lives now. The same instincts I use on our own releases, I use for the artists I work with: protect the song, build the world around it, and never let the budget be the reason it looks small.
What I actually believe
Song first.
If the song is not right, no amount of polish saves it. Everything starts there.
One coherent world.
Sound, video, and design should feel like they came from the same place — because they did.
Independent on purpose.
You keep your masters, your audience, and your final say. I build systems you actually own.
Honest to a fault.
I will tell you when something is not working, even when it is easier not to. That is the value.
